JCC’s Volleyball Success Continues

CORTLAND – Jamestown Community College won for the third straight time in women’s volleyball Saturday against three teams from NJCAA Region 3, Division 3.

The Jayhawks ran their overall record to 20-4 on the season and 13-1 in the region by winning their 10th straight game.

JCC opened against SUNY Delhi and recorded wins of 25-8, 25-17, 25-7, as Mandy Finch had six aces, six kills and nine digs and Christina Rauh an ace, 18 assists and a kill.

Shannon Gunnell had two aces, seven kills and four digs while Kayleane Chase added five blocks for JCC.

Next, JCC posted a 25-10, 25-13, 25-9 victory over host Tompkins-Cortland CC.

Finch delivered six aces, three kills and four digs, Rauh added an ace, a kill, a dig, and 20 assists, Gunnell an ace, eight kills and a dig and Michelle Bach three kills and three blocks for the Jayhawks.

The final win for JCC was against Broome CC by scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 25-22.

Gunnell had an ace and 11 kills, a dig and a block, Rauh an ace, 29 assists, a kill, four digs, Finch an ace, five kills, four digs and a block and Bach seven kills and three blocks for JCC.

Monroe CC comes to play JCC on Tuesday at 6 p.m.


Christina Rauh of the Jamestown Community College’s women volleyball team was named Player of the Week for NJCAA Region 3 this week.

Rauh recorded 12 aces, 85 assists, 28 kills, 17 digs and a block while leading JCC to wins over previously undefeated Corning CC, Monroe CC and host Finger Lakes CC.



It goes down as a overtime tie between JCC and Tompkins-Cortland CC in Region 3, Division III, but for playoff positioning the Jayhawks were the winner on penalty kicks.

The two teams battled to a 1-1 overtime tie, but Jason Pembridge of JCC got the decisive score on the seventh round of penalty kicks and then goalie Tyler Dykstra stopped the final T-C shot.

Tompkins-Cortland CC scored in the first half on a goal by Sean Streib on a direct kick.

JCC got the tying goal on a header by Mike Morris off a direct kick from Ryan Houghtalen at 17:50 of the second half.

Dykstra made 12 saves in playing an outstanding game in goal and Ziggy Richards had four saves for T-C.

Tompkins-Cortland came in No. 3 in the nation while JCC has a 7-4-3 overall record and 3-2-3 in the Region 3, Division III.
