Antonina “Ann” Smith

Antonina “Ann” Smith, 78, of 233 Broadhead Ave., died Oct. 2, 2013, in her home.

She was born July 28, 1935, in Termini Imerese, Italy, a daughter of the late Gaetano and Josephine Bonafede Contiguglia.

She came to the United States in 1953, with the assistance of her aunts: Sarah Contiguglia Trusso and Maria Contiguglia Milone, in America, and aunts and uncles: Josephine Contiguglia, Anthony Contiguglia and Francis Dimasi, in Italy. She was employed by Rockman’s Super Duper in the meat department and later by Jamestown Plywood.

She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church, where she was a longtime volunteer and baker for various events.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and flower gardening. She will be remembered as a woman with a keen sense of fashion who enjoyed traveling, and loved time spent with family and friends.

Surviving are two children: Thomas Smith of Largo, Fla., and Julie (Donald) Lauer of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; three grandchildren: Staff Sgt. Nicholas (Robin Moss) Lauer of Clinton, Utah, Adam Lauer of Baldwinsville, N.Y., and Garrett Smith of Largo, Fla., and all of Ann’s caregivers from Angel Homecare.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd C. Smith, whom she married Nov. 26, 1955, and who died March 11, 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. James Catholic Church. Rev. Darrell G. Duffy will be celebrant.

Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Sunday where the Rosary will be recited at 5:15 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service will be led at 7:45 p.m.
