SUNY Fredonia To Hold Folk Song Festival

FREDONIA – The State University at Fredonia’s 2013 Convocation series, “Raising Cultural Awareness and Building Global Relations,” will continue to celebrate diversity this semester through a Folk Song Festival, designed to blend music, history and culture together to promote cultural awareness and explore multiculturalism within the community.

The festival, will take place Monday at 7 p.m. in the Williams Center’s Multipurpose Room.

A collaboration between Fredonia’s School of Music and International Education Center, this unique celebration will open with a welcome address by Ms. Mary Sasso, director of international education. Music performances will include Fredonia’s Latin Jazz Ensemble featuring guest percussionist Wendell Rivera, and the Zion Choir from the First Presbyterian Church in Dunkirk.

The event will also feature a performance from Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do Family Martial Arts Center of Buffalo.

The night will conclude with international students from various countries leading a light reception while draped in their own traditional dress.
