Cecchini Donates $25,000 To YMCA In Legacy Of Her Son
Babs Cecchini wanted to do something to honor her son, Dr. Al B. Cecchini, who unexpectedly passed away in June of this year.
That special something was a donation of $25,000 to the Jamestown YMCA in legacy of her son.
Cecchini was a volunteer youth basketball coach at the YMCA for more than 15 years and loved being a part of the program. He taught youth participants to concentrate on playing the game with good sportsmanship whether or not they won or lost. He also encouraged them to focus on achieving their future goals.
“My son was always helping people in any way he could and was definitely the wind beneath my wings,” said Ms. Cecchini. “I wanted to give back to the Y as a special tribute to my wonderful son. I am sure that all of those who knew and loved him would agree with all he has given to the world with his honesty and integrity.”
According to his mother, coaching at the Y gave Cecchini a respite away from his everyday busy work life. He conveyed the message of showing love by what you do for others as a way of life.
The Al Cecchini Scholarship Fund is being set up to provide scholarships for youth in the local community with YMCA membership and program participation in the youth basketball league.
The endowment fund is a legacy to his devotion and passion for the youth basketball league program. Cecchini, who was the president of Libera in Jamestown, would have celebrated his 58th birthday Sept. 30.
