Panama Rallies Past Frewsburg; Cougars Fall

PANAMA – A second-half surge carried Panama (3-1) to a 20-12 decision over Frewsburg (2-2) in Class DD football Saturday afternoon.

Frewsburg jumped to a 12-0 lead in the first half as Brady Collver hit Josh Nelson on a 10-yard scoring pass and Bryce Peterson on a 36-yard strike.

After intermission, however, it was all Panama, starting with a 3-yard run by Bryce Payne and a placement by his brother, Jack, to cut the margin to 12-7 after three quarters.

A Frewsburg punter made the mistake of having his knee touch the ground making it a dead ball at the spot. The Panthers took advantage of that with Dave O’Dell catching a 10-yard pass from Bryce Payne to give the hosts the lead at 13-12.

Later, Panama got an insurance score when Steve Enlow cracked over from the 8-yard line and Jack Payne split the uprights with just 45 seconds left in the game.

The Panthers’ defense gave up just two first downs in the second half and tackle Jake Short ended the game by sacking Collver near midfield.

Short had 17 tackles and a sack, middle linebacker Dylan Bergman had nine tackles and end Dillon Mescall added eight tackles and a sack. Kyle Saxton carried 17 times and Enlow 15 for 78 yards apiece for the winners.

Kevin Rogers gained 91 yards in 14 attempts for Frewsburg.
