Information Sought In Fourth Street Accident

A sport-utility vehicle ended up on its side at the intersection of Lafayette and West Fourth streets following a two-vehicle accident shortly after 5 p.m. Friday.

The accident, which occurred at 5:42 p.m. involved Lauren Johnson, 22, of Jamestown, operating 2002 Nissan Xterra, who was traveling northbound on Lafayette Street. and Lawrence Dupere, 70, of Ashville, operating 1997 Dodge Caravan, who was traveling westbound on West Fourth Street.

The front of the caravan struck the rear passenger side of the Nissan, overturning it on its side. Both drivers sustained minor injuries, but refused medical treatment at the scene.

Jamestown Police Department, Jamestown Fire department and Alstar ambulance responded to the accident. However, JPD officers were unsure which driver had the right of way, and the sun was shining brightly into oncoming traffic on West Fourth Street at the time of the accident.
