Fishing Club To Host Barbecue

The Chautauqua Lake Fishing Club in Celoron will host a chicken barbecue from noon until sold out Saturday. The cost is $8 per dinner.

Seneca Nation To Hold Ceremony

Saturday, the Seneca Nation of Indians will hold its annual “Remember the Removal” ceremony to commemorate the taking of the nation’s land to build the Kinzua Dam. Close to 50 years ago, 600 Senecas were forced from 10,000 acres of their ancestral homeland by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and their homes burned in preparation for construction. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Seneca Allegany Administration Building, Salamanca, where a walk of remembrance will take place honoring the Cornplanter Grant. Johnny Cash wrote and recorded a song in 1964 – “As Long as the Grass Shall Grow” – about the forced removal of the Senecas. Seneca Nation President Barry E. Snyder Sr. will give opening remembrance remarks.

Cancer Group To Sell Light Bulbs

The Breast Cancer Support Group of Jamestown has pink light bulbs for breast cancer awareness for use during the entire month of October. The cost is $2.50 per light bulb and they are available at Farm Fresh Foods on West Third Street; the Lakewood Mobil Mart on Fairmount Avenue; the Falconer Vac Shoppe on West Main Street, Falconer; Southside Pharmacy on Foote Avenue; the Ashville General Store in Ashville; or by calling 665-4343.

Westfield Chorus Cancels Season

WESTFIELD – Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Westfield Community Chorus will not be performing this year. Members hope to regroup in 2014.
