Bears Run Tennis Record To 6-1

FREWSBURG- Frewsburg raised its East Division girls tennis record to 6-1 by turning back Gowanda (5-4, 5-3) as the result of a 3-2 victory on Wednesday.

First singles Rosemarie Mole, third singles Olivia Sposato and second doubles Carli Marsh and Becca Maybee picked up the Frewsburg wins.

Mole defeated Jessica Sowa, 6-2, 6-3; Sposato downed Kelsey Herniman, 7-6 (8-4 tie-breaker) and 6-4; and Marsh and Maybee turned back Alyssa Poff and Monica Sturm, 6-3, 6-1, for Frewsburg.

The best match was at second singles where Brittnee Shelley of Gowanda defeated Emily Hair, 7-6 with an 8-6 tie breaker, 4-6, and 7-5.

Gowanda also won first doubles with Alayna Swartz and Johnny Accordino prevailing over Meredith Franzen and Megan Greene, 6-2, 6-3.

Southwestern continued unbeaten in stopping Maple Grove, 5-0.

Heidi Mueller, Morgan Johnson and Victoria Van Every picked up singles wins while Elizabeth Rowan and Mikayla Johnson along with Leigh Yartz and Daisie Bancroft won in doubles.

MAYVILLE – Chautauqua Lake fell to 5-4 in the league and 6-4 overall after losing to Fredonia (6-3, 7-3), 4-1.

The only victory for Chautauqua Lake was in third singles where Samantha Bauer defeated Lauren Milson.

Second singles Abby Whisner was the only winner for Jamestown High School as it dropped a 4-1 non-league decision to visiting Olean in girls tennis Wednesday.

Whisner defeated Ally Rakus, 6-1, 6-2, for Jamestown, which had first singles Chloe Knapp injured and had to forfeit the first match.

Jamestown is 3-6 overall and 2-6 in the West Division while Olean improves to 5-2 overall and is 5-1 in the East Division.
