Crossley, Griener Lift Red Dragons To 2-1 Win Over Fredonia
The Maple Grove duo of Patrick Crossley and Brandon Griener helped to lift the Red Dragons (5-1, 3-0) to a 2-1 victory over Fredonia (2-3, 1-2) on Wednesday in West Division action.
At the 10:05 mark, Crossley scored the opening goal off a feed from Griener.
The two hooked up again later as Griener was credited with the goal and Crossley had the assist at the 68:10 mark.
With 41 seconds left in the game, the Hillbillies got on the board as Jon Saeli fed Matt Sheridan to avoid a shutout.
Kyle Richardson was the winning goalie with six saves while his counterpart, Morghon Thompson, made five saves in the loss.
DILTS NETS WINNER
FREWSBURG – Jordan Dilts’ tie-breaking goal 40 seconds into the second half lifted Frewsburg to a 2-1 victory over visiting Cassadaga Valley.
Jacob Lyon assisted on the decisive tally.
Cassadaga Valley’s Kyle Ruge opened the scoring at 10 minutes to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead, and it wasn’t until 30 minutes later that Frewsburg – thanks to Wyatt Mann – netted the equalizer from Jacob Annis.
Frewsburg is now 4-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in league.
Justin Randall had three saves for the winners while Reece Bly stopped nine shots for the Cougars (0-6, 0-4).
T’BIRDS POST SHUTOUT
MAYVILLE – Goalies James Latimer and Joey Parker combined for a shutout when Chautauqua Lake won its first boys soccer game in four tries this season.
Latimer played the first half and made three saves and Parker the second half with five saves as Chautauqua Lake blanked Pine Valley (1-3, 1-4), 4-0.
The only goal in the first half was by Albert Firster, his first of the season, assisted by Zach Weatherlow, at seven minutes. In the second half, Chautauqua Lake (0-2 in West Division) pulled away with three goals, two by Brayden Wappat. Wappat tallied at one minute from Steve Akin and, three minutes later, Abdullah Khalid tallied from Firster for his first goal of the season. With 10 minutes left, Wappat recorded his second goal of the year from Colton Mulkins.
Chautauqua Lake fired 14 shots on the Pine Valley netminder.
JHS LOSES, 4-0
Maddie Pinciaro was busy in the goal with 24 saves in Jamestown High School’s 4-0 soccer setback to visiting Clarence in Division 1 of the Erie County Interscholastic Conference on Wednesday.
Caitlyn Roberts scored two minutes in for Clarence on an assist from Sydney Cerza followed by Cerza scoring five minutes later. At 12 minutes, Maria Lampka tallied a goal.
That 3-0 halftime score was increased by one in the second half on a goal by Lauren Moore of Clarence.
While Pinciaro was busy in the Jamestown goal, Molly Barden of Clarence only had to make two saves.
