Silvio Belmondo, 91, and a longtime Brocton resident and carpenter passed away Monday morning Sept. 16, 2013, at Heritage Village in Gerry, N.Y., surrounded by his loving family.
Besides being a skilled carpenter, Silvio was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran who had served in Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, New Britain and Peleliu. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton, N.Y., and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Silvio also served as treasurer and president of his local carpenters union in Dunkirk, N.Y.
Silvio was married for 67 years to his loving and car-ing wife, Rita; and was the beloved father of Dan (Mary) Belmondo of Philadelphia, Pa., Sylvia Fenner (the late Wickham) of Fredonia, N.Y., David (Leslie) of Girard, Pa., and Doug (Karen) Belmondo of Westfield, N.Y. He was the beloved grandfather of Matthew, Michael, Genni-ca, David Jr., Brent and Bradley; and beloved great-grandfather of six. Silvio was a loving family man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial celebration with military honors will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at the Brocton American Legion, Main Street, Brocton. The family will be present to greet friends from 10-10:30 a.m. Military honors conducted by the American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton will take place at 10:30 a.m. A brunch will follow the ceremony at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Silvio’s memory be made to the charity of your choice.
