Area Police Reports


DUNKIRK – Michael J. Gula, 52, of Fredonia was charged at 3:06 a.m. on Friday with failure to stop at a stop sign, driving while intoxicated and driving with .08 of 1 percent or more alcohol. Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Waldorff and Brigham Roads in Dunkirk. The vehicle was stopped and Gula was identified as the operator. Through an investigation, it was found that Gula was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition. He was processed and later released with traffic tickets. He will appear in the Town of Dunkirk Court at a later date and time.

VILLENOVA – Klarisa J. Foster, 23, of the South Dayton-Silver Creek Road, Forestville, was charged at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday with felony burglary. Deputies responded to the South Dayton-Silver Creek Road for a reported wanted subject. Foster was wanted on a Chautauqua County felony burglary warrant. Upon arrival, deputies were advised that Foster had fled into a wooded area. Chautauqua County K-9 Unit was brought to the scene in an attempt to locate her who had fled into a heavily wooded and overgrown area. K-9 Drago was able to work through the densely wooded area and located Foster who hid in a ditch under brush and overgrowth. She was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail.


Jonathan M. Bates, 20, of Jamestown was charged at 3:44 a.m. on Friday with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI, speed in zone, open container in motor vehicle and unlicensed operator. Jamestown Police Officers observed a vehicle traveling in excess of the posted speed limit on Falconer Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the operator as Bates. Upon further investigation he was found to be unlicensed and operation a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition. He was charged and transported to the city jail where a chemical breath test was administered with his blood alcohol content in excess of twice the legal limit. He is currently being held in the city jail awaiting arraignment.

Dan N. Tompkins, 36, of Jamestown was charged at 9:35 p.m. on Friday with backing unsafely, leaving/scene property damage accident, failure to stop at stop sign, failed to comply with unlawful order, consumption/alcohol in motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, driving with .08 of 1 percent or more of alcohol, refusal to take prescreen test, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operator and third-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle. An investigation was started into a vehicle that had left the scene of a property-damage motor vehicle accident that had occurred on Pearl Avenue. During the investigation, the suspect vehicle drove past the scene, sped off and a short vehicle pursuit engaged. The suspect vehicle was stopped on Peterson Street at Benedict Avenue. Tompkins was found to be the operator, intoxicated and using the vehicle without consent of the owner. He was charged and will be arraigned in Jamestown City Court.


BUSTI – Jason A. Sproveri, 37, of Pittsfield was charged at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday with speed in zone, driving while intoxicated and DWI per se. A vehicle was observed speeding on Big Tree Road in the town of Busti. The operator was identified as Sproveri and upon further investigation it was found he was intoxicated. He was taken into custody for processing, charged and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

LAKEWOOD – A 16-year-old female was charged at 7:35 p.m. Thursday with petit larceny. The female placed hair dye and shorts into her purse and attempted to leave a store at 350 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, without paying. She was issued an appearance ticket to be in the Town of Busti Court at a later date.
