Leon Hettenbaugh, 86, of North Warren, passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at his home.
Leon was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Randolph, N.Y., the son of the late Leon V. and Cora E. Grant Hettenbaugh.
Leon served in the Army and had spent much of his service time in Alaska. He was employed as a machinist at Dahlstrom Manufacturing Company, where he worked for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fishing with his grandchildren. Leon also enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He and his wife were members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, and the Circle 8 Square Dance Club. He was a member of the North Warren Volunteer Fire Department and was a founding member of the Warren County Fire Police Association.
He is survived by two sons: Randy Hettenbaugh, and wife, Karen, and Thomas Hettenbaugh, both of Warren, Pa.; one sister, June Olson, Vergennes, Vt.; and one brother, Donald Hettenbaugh, and wife, Laura Lee, Randolph, N.Y. He also has three grandsons: Devin, Ryan and James Hettenbaugh; one granddaughter, Cassandra Hettenbaugh; one adopted grandson, Josh Duston; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia E. Hettenbaugh, whom he married on April 6, 1956; three sisters: the Rev. Gloria Hodge, Florence Rankin and Gladys Lockwood; and four brothers, Arwood, Grant, Leland and Nelson Hettenbaugh.
Friends will be received on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home Inc., 1003 Penn Ave., E., Warren, Pa. A funeral service will be held there at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, with the Rev. Jeffrey Ewing officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, Pa.
