JHS Boys Capture Soccer Title In Olean
OLEAN – Jamestown had plenty of chances in the late going Saturday, but couldn’t capitalize on any and lost a 2-1 decision to Hornell in the boys soccer championship at the Olean Tournament.
Sophomore Alex Lee Yaw scored with 15:15 left from Art Kibbe to pull Jamestown within, 2-1, but the Red Raiders couldn’t tally the equalizer.
Richard Brooks scored both goals for Hornell with the first coming in the first half with 9:12 left. Then, Brooks tallied again with 36:14 remaining for a 2-0 edge.
Liam Kulakowski made two saves for Jamestown.
Quinn Lee Yaw was named to the all-tournament team for Jamestown.
Bradford took consolation honors over Olean, 4-1.
JHS JAYVEES WIN TITLE
OLEAN – Noah Johnson tallied four goals as the Jamestown High School jayvees won the Olean Tournament, 8-2, over Hornell.
Two goals were recorded by Corbyn Nelson, while Ryan Holdridge and Griffin Noon added one apiece.
Nick Bigney was the winning goalie.
FREWSBURG – Kyle Richardson picked up the shutout in goal as Maple Grove blanked Frewsburg, 3-0.
Patrick Crossley began the scoring for Maple Grove, taking a pass from Josh Plymel at eight minutes of the first half.
Brandon Greiner made it 2-0 with an assist by David Meekins at 32 minutes and Dominick Fabrizio tallied on an assist from Greiner at 66 minutes.
REYNOLDS LEADS WAY
CATTARAUGUS – Ford Reynolds scored an unassisted goal from 12 yards out in with 33 seconds left in double overtime to give Salamanca a 1-0 win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
The win was the second straight for the Warriors as they beat Cattaraugus-Little Valley, 4-1, earlier this season.
MacKenzie Tucker made three saves for the winners while Dylan Rhinehart had 15 saves in defeat.
PINE VALLEY FALLS
PORTVILLE – Elayna Keim’s goal from Madeline Van Curen was the only score as Portville edged Pine Valley, 1-0.
Madison Clark posted the shutout for Portville.
