Dolores ‘‘Gene’’ Westerberg Wheeler

Dolores ”Gene” Westerberg Wheeler, 83, of River Road, Charlestown, N.H., passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, after a long period of declining health entering into eternal rest and life.

Formerly of Chautauqua and Mayville, N.Y., Bradenton, Fla., Claremont, N.H., and most recently Charlestown. Genie was born Aug. 12, 1930, the daughter of Bertha (Pelican) and Harold Westerberg, in Kane, Pa., where she spent her childhood years.

In 1949, she married Dean Lewis Wheeler of Chautauqua, N.Y., where they made their home and raised their family for the next 20 years, moving to Mayville in 1970, and then Bradenton, Fla., in 1977.

She was predeceased by Dean in 1982.

Our mother was very hardworking and creative, working right alongside dad clearing and building two houses on Chautauqua Lake. She was always sewing, knitting clothes for us or baking her bread. She worked for Webb’s Candies and waitressed at the Captain’s Table, Sena’s Liquor Store and MarMar Restaurant. While in Mayville, she became a member of the Beta Sigma Phi women’s sorority which she said was one of the “best experiences of my life.”

After moving to Braden-ton, Fla., she held a variety of office management positions, and finally retired from Tropicana after nine years. She moved to New Hampshire in 1997 to be “with her girls.”

Surviving family members include her daughters: Ruth Kearney and husband, Patrick, Thetford, Vt., Sue Ann Forcier and husband Steve, Charlestown, N.H. and Lynn Walker of Wilmot, N.H.; her son, Ray Wheeler and his wife, Janet and their daughter, Danika of Bradenton, Fla. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ruth’s boys: Jesse Moore and his wife, Sophie of Oakland, Calif., and Alex Moore of Burlington, Vt. As well as her sister, Gayle Rathbun Hemingway, Gilbert, Ariz.; brother, Gary Rathbun, Seffner, Fla.

As were her wishes, there will be a private family graveside remembrance at the family’s convenience.

She will be interred at St. Mary’s Church, Claremont, N.H.
