Bears Trim Golden Falcons; T’Birds Fall

FREWSBURG – Frewsburg toppled Falconer, 3-2, in a non-league soccer game on Wednesday evening.

Drew Beckerink and Tobi Culpepper netted the goals in defeat, with assists going to Golden Falcons Evan Butts and Justin Olson.

With the loss, Falconer fell to 1-1, while Frewsburg is 1-0.

Scoring information for Frewsburg was unavailable at press time.


MAYVILLE – Two goals in the first half led Ellicottville to a 2-1 win over Chautauqua Lake.

Pat McMahon-Eagan and Liam O’Rourke tallied in the first half for Ellicottville.

McMahon-Eagan recorded a goal at 23 minutes from O’Rourke and then the latter tallied at 32 minutes from Jack Haley.

Chautauqua Lake got on the board at 20 minutes of the second half on a goal by Joey Shearer from Abdullah Khalid.

James Latimer made 12 saves for the Thunderbirds while Jeremy Biordini had 24 saves for the winners.


SILVER CREEK – Westfield-Brocton (1-0) eased past Silver Creek (0-1), 7-1.

Chris Cockram, Dylan Robinson and Bryce Bentham scored two goals each in the win while Peter Manzella added the Wolverines’ other tally.

Ty Bentham picked up the win between the pipes.

For Silver Creek, Dylan Sack had the lone goal while Adam Klajbor suffered the loss in net.


ALLEGANY – The Dunkirk Marauders went toe to toe with Allegany-Limestone and, after a double overtime, the two teams walked away with a 2-2 tie.

Dunkirk’s Nelmy Robles scored the opening goal at the 10-minute mark with an assist from Angel Echevarria.

However, just 10 seconds later, the Gators tied it up as Robbie Higby found the back of the net. At the 28-minute mark, the home team took its first lead as Dom Saglimven scored for Allegany-Limestone.

Still in the first half, Dunkirk freshmen Chris Michalski tied the score off a feed from Antonio Robles.

In the second half, Allegany-Limestone had a couple opportunities to break the tie, but goaltender Tyler Kubasik and the Marauder defense kept the score tied, 2-all.

Kubasik finished with 10 saves.



FALCONER – Emma Steele and Andrea Volk showed the way in the Falconer’s easy season-opening girls soccer game over Cassadaga Valley.

Steele and Volk delivered hat tricks and scored five points each as the Lady Golden Falcons prevailed,11-0.

Steele scored all her goals in the first half when Falconer tallied five times while Volk added two in the first half and one after intermission as the Lady Golden Falcons connected for six more goals.

Amber Micek added two goals, Rhea Moore a goal and an assist, Kelly Keefe a goal and an assist and Kaylee Keith a goal for the winners.

Randi Greene contributed two assists, and Liz Dallas, Abbey Warner and Sydney Moore one each in the win.

Macey Mays and Emily Brown were in goal for Falconer and combined for two saves.
