Update 8:30 p.m.: Power Restored To City Residents
Power was totally restored on the north and west sides of Jamestown and in West Ellicott by 7:45 p.m. Monday, according to Becky Robbins, communications coordinator for the Jamestown BPU. Power for some areas was restored within two hours.
Earlier Monday, roughly 3,500 Jamestown BPU electric customers were without power. Line crews, who were called into work because of the holiday, were out working on repairing downed lines.
In the Lakewood area, roughly 1,000 National Grid customers were without power as of 5:30 p.m.
According to Patrick Stella, National Grid spokesman, as many as 4,300 customers in Lakewood and the surrounding areas were without power earlier Monday afternoon after what Stella called “a pretty severe microburst storm” struck between 1 and 2 p.m. National Grid had crews in Lakewood and expected all but about 100 of those customers to have power by 6:30 p.m., Stella said, while the remaining customers were expected to have power later Monday evening.
Readers reported hail, lightning and strong, damaging winds Monday afternoon.
