History Series Begins Wednesday

The Continuing Education Department of Jamestown Community College and the Fenton History Center Education Department are presenting a three-part series of topics about public history and specific information about our county’s history. Presenters are Jonathan Schmitz, Chautauqua Institution archivist and historian; Vince Martonis, town of Hanover historian; and Michelle Henry, county historian. The classes will start Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and continue each Wednesday through Sept. 18. The cost is $59. The class size is limited; register early. Cruise-In Set

For Labor Day

The Der Kobblers Automobile Association will be holding their annual Labor Day Cruise-In at Midway State Park Monday. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Dash plaques and goody bags will be given to the first 400 cars registered. Awards, as voted on by participants, will be presented at 3 p.m. There will also be a Chinese auction and door prizes. This will also be the last day the park will be open.

Society Members To Meet Tuesday

SINCLAIRVILLE – Valley Historical Society members will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the museum, corner of Main and Lester streets, Sinclairville. Discussion will be on finalizing plans for the 15th annual history fair in Sinclairville, from 7-9 p.m. on Sept. 14.

Blood Drive

Set For Tuesday

CASSADAGA – The Cassadaga Fire Department Auxiliary will conduct a Community Blood Drive at the Community Building/Fire Hall on Mill Street in Cassadaga on Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. All donors will be entered into a chance to win four Bills vs. Steelers tickets. The auxiliary will also award to one of the local donors a $25 gas card.

Youth Group

To Hold Event

The Branch youth group will hold its big fall kickoff from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at 591 Hunt Road, Jamestown, the cornerstone center, across from Southwestern Central School. All children, sixth to 12th grade, are welcome to attend. Snacks, music and games will be featured.

Bag Sale

Begins Tuesday

Community Helping Hands, at the Gateway Center, 31 Water St. off Foote Avenue, Jamestown, will hold a bag sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 6, and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 7. The cost is $1 per bag and new items are added every day. For more information call 487-1488. All proceeds benefit the ministries of CHH, which helps local families in need.

Antique Club To Meet Wednesday

Antique Women’s Club members will meet at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the Lakewood Community Center. Officers will provide treats. Dues must be paid at this meeting. The cost is $10 per person. Nineteen women met recently for their annual picnic. Committee members were Irene Berg, Madelyn Wellington, Donna Ecklof and Nancy Shelters. New officers were elected. They are Yvonne Lee, president; Madelyn Wellington, vice president; Nancy J. Schuyler, secretary; and Joan Robinson, treasurer.
