Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. To Expand Child, Adult Food Care Service

The New York State Department of Health has awarded Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. Child Care Council a $10,000 expansion grant for the Child and Adult Care Food Program. The grant is to be used to expand and enhance the current program.

This grant is complementing the Community Transformation Grant.

This is a mutual effort to increase the nutrition and physical activity of the children throughout Chautauqua County.

The Child and Adult Care Food Program plays an important role in providing day care children with nutritious meals.

The Child and Adult Food Program allows providers to be reimbursed for the expenses of providing nutritious meals, at no cost to the parents.

The children are then capable of receiving healthy nutritious meals with greater ease.

The Community Transformation Grant focuses on increasing access to better food and increasing physical activity in day care settings.

With the community transformation grant, providers are trained by a physical activity specialist to enhance the quantity and quality of physical activity opportunities to the children in their care. The training emphasizes adult-led activities, while developing fundamental movement patterns.

Federal-funded nutritional programs provide a critical safety net for the children and families of the community in these critical stages of development.

Evidence demonstrates that these programs reduce hunger, save lives, help with school readiness, improve health, improve student achievement, and reduce obesity. The Chautauqua Child Care Council is excited to be part of this transformation. If you are interested in the food program, contact Melissa Horton, CACFP program specialist at Chautauqua Opportunities Inc. at 661-9430, ext. 260.
