A Fresh Start
STOCKTON -The community of Cassadaga is welcome to attend an open house on Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.at the newly remodeled Cassadaga Branch Library. Refreshments will be served and the event will celebrate a new beginning after three years of extensive remodeling.
“We’ve had all kinds of volunteer help,” library’s board of directors President Trudy Coulcher said.
A library construction state grant along with many local foundations and private donations have helped fund the project.
“We’re looking forward to the open house,” Coulcher said.
After an assessment in 2010, it was decided the building needed to be refurbished because of mold. The town of Stockton ended up closing the building and eventually selling it to the Cassadaga Library Association.
“We have two furnaces now and two AC units. We have two on-demand water heaters,” Coulcher said at a recent Stockton town board meeting.
A new portion of the building has been added to house these additions and the roof has been replaced.
The library also has revamped its interior, complete with new murals and other decor.
Coulcher said a puppet show recently took place at the library for more than 30 children attending Cassadaga’s summer recreation program.
“I’d like to see that continued,” Stockton board member John Beichner said. “That library is for our young.”
“We hope to have more programs like that,” Coulcher said.
