SUNY Fredonia Announces Scholarship Awards

The State University of New York at Fredonia is announcing the names of students in Chautauqua County who have been awarded scholarships for the 2013-14 academic year that have been made possible by private donors and foundations.

These students, listed alphabetically by hometown, are as follows:

Jordan Reed of Brocton has received a $500 SUNY Fredonia Honors Award and a $500 Faculty-Staff Scholarship for Second Year Students from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A home-schooled student, Reed is a sophomore majoring in history and economics. He is the son of Brian and Ruth Reed.

Colin Perry of Cassadaga has received a $3,000 President’s Award for Excellence from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2013 graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School, Perry will begin his freshman year with a major in English this fall. He is the son of Carl and Tammy Perry.

Darren Norris of Falconer has received two academic awards – a $500 New York State Scholarship in Academic Excellence and $450 Dorothy French Manley Memorial Scholarship – from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A graduate of Falconer Central School, Norris is a senior majoring in biology adolescence education. He is the son of Gordon and Charlotte Norris.

Katie Cooley of Falconer has received two academic awards – a $1,000 SUNY Fredonia Transfer Scholar Award and a $500 Roger C. Seager Presidential Scholarship – from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2011 graduate of Falconer Central School, Cooley is a junior majoring in computer science. She is the daughter of Kathleen Cooley and Norman Cooley.

Jonatan Burgos of Forestville has received a $1,500 Velyne and Lynn A. Hawkins Scholarship from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2013 graduate of Forestville Central High School, Burgos will be a freshman majoring in biology this fall. He is the son of Jose and Judith Burgos.

Brianna Price of Fredonia has received three academic awards – a $2,000 Student Affairs Freshman Award, a $1,000 Ann James Manly Scholarship and a $1,000 Foundation Academic Scholarship – from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2013 graduate of Fredonia High School, Price will be a freshman majoring in business administration/marketing this fall. She is the daughter of David and Kathy Price.

Katelyn Ludemann of Fredonia has received a $1,500 SUNY Fredonia Transfer Scholar Award from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2012 graduate of Fredonia High School, Ludemann previously attended Jamestown Community College. She will major in early childhood/childhood education with a Spanish concentration this fall. She is the daughter of David and Kathleen Ludemann.

Alexander Crise of Fredonia has received a $500 Fredonia Scholar Award from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2012 graduate of Fredonia High School, Crise is a sophomore majoring in applied mathematics and economics. He is the son of Michael and Kelly Crise.

Emily Ann Pleszewski of Fredonia has received three academic awards – a $4,000 Carnahan-Jackson Scholarship, a $1,000 Children of Alumni Scholarship and a $500 Roger C. Seager Presidential Scholarship – from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2013 graduate of Jamestown Community College and a 2011 graduate of Fredonia High School, Pleszewski is a junior majoring in social work. She is the daughter of David and Pamela Pleszewski.

Caitlin Cayle of Fredonia has received three academic awards – a $600 Clifton Scholarship, a $575 Zola Graf Scholarship and a $400 Earl G. Mathewson Scholarship – from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2010 graduate of Fredonia High School, Cayle is a senior majoring in mathematics adolescence education. She is the daughter of Mark and Tracey Cayle.

Parker Fink of Fredonia has received two academic awards – a $3,450 Dennis R. and Kathryn L. Costello Scholarship and a $500 Fredonia Scholar Award – from the State University of New York at Fredonia. The 2011 graduate of Brocton High School has a major in environmental science and a minor in chemistry. Fink is the daughter of Michael and Valerie Lawhead.

Allison Burdick of Fredonia has received five academic awards totaling $5,500 from the State University of New York at Fredonia. They include: $1,500 SUNY Fredonia Honors Award, $1,000 Ann James Manly Scholarship, $1,000 Student Affairs Freshman Award, $1,000 Children of Alumni Scholarship and $1,000 Foundation Academic Scholarship. A 2013 graduate of Fredonia High School, Burdick will be a freshman majoring in psychology this fall. She is the daughter of Christine Burdick and Scott Burdick.

Brandon Napieralski of Fredonia has been awarded a $1,500 Senior Challenge Scholarship from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2010 graduate of Fredonia High School, Napieralski is a senior majoring in business administration. He is the son Larry and Lynn Napieralski.

Fei Wei, formerly of Beijing, China and now residing in Fredonia, has received a $1,000 Ann James Manly Scholarship from the State University of New York at Fredonia. Wei is majoring in criminal justice.

Allison Rhinehart of Frewsburg has received a $600 Doors to Opportunity Endowment Scholarship from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2009 graduate of Frewsburg Central School, Rhinehart is a senior majoring in communication disorders and sciences. She is the daughter of David and Darcy Rhinehart.

Lisa Micciche of Jamestown has received four academic awards – a $250 Barbara Rose Memorial Scholarship, $200 Stephen Morse Memorial Fund Award, $50 S.C.W. Hom Parent Scholarship, and $50 Charlotte Putnam Landers Scholarship – from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2003 graduate of Jamestown High School, Micciche is a senior majoring in social work. She is the daughter of Vince and Carm Micciche.

Kyle Spence of Jamestown has received a $4,000 Carnahan-Jackson Scholarship from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2011 graduate of Jamestown High School, Spence is a junior majoring in criminal justice. He earned an associate degree in criminal justice, graduating with high honors, from Jamestown Community College in 2012. He is the son of William and Carrie Spence.

Andrew Flagg of Jamestown has received a $1,000 SUNY Fredonia Transfer Scholar Award from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2007 graduate of Jamestown High School, Flagg is a junior majoring in social studies adolescence education. He graduated this past spring from Jamestown Community College with an associate degree in adolescence education.

Randee Greco of Jamestown has received a $1,230 Robert Rie Scholarship from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 1996 graduate of Jamestown High School, Greco is a junior majoring in English education. She and her husband, Al, are the parents of two children, Rowan and Margo.

Samantha Trevelline of Ripley has received a $1,000 Foundation Academic Scholarship from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2013 graduate of Ripley Central School, Trevelline will be a freshman studying liberal arts this fall. She is the daughter of John and Cindy Trevelline.

Rebekah Herr of Westfield has been awarded a $2,000 Student Affairs Freshman Award from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2013 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School, Herr will be a freshman this fall. She is the daughter of David and Gwen Herr.

Caleb Genthner of Westfield has been awarded a $2,500 Samuel F. Nixon Scholarship, given to a Westfield Academy and Central School student who intends to major in education, from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2013 WACS graduate, Genthner will be a freshman majoring in social studies adolescence education this fall. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rob Genthner.

Jeffrey Emilson of Westfield has been awarded two academic awards – a $1,000 Children of Alumni and a $500 Alumni Ambassador Award – from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2011 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School, Emilson previously studied visual arts at Jamestown Community College and will major in art history at Fredonia. He is the son of Pauline Emilson and the late C. Rudolph Emilson.

Hillary Nelson of Westfield has received a $1,000 Welch’s/National Grape Scholarship through the State University of New York at Fredonia. The award is given to children or grandchildren of Welch’s or National Grape employees or grower/owners. A 2013 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School, Nelson will be a freshman majoring in communication disorders and sciences. She is the daughter of Colleen A. Nelson-Cannon and Timothy Cannon.

Shauna McGuay of Westfield has received two scholarships – a $500 Fredonia Scholar Award and a $300 Alumni Junior Achievement Scholarship – from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A 2011 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School, McGuay is majoring in business administration/marketing. She is the daughter of Jesse and Sally McGuay.

Chelsea Barber of Westfield has been awarded a $4,000 Carnahan-Jackson Scholarship from the State University of New York at Fredonia, based on academic achievement while enrolled at Jamestown Community College. A 2011 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School, Barber is the son of Lisa and Craig Barber.
