Singers, Dancers?Wanted For ‘Black Satin’

Masked Productions is presenting “Black Satin” a burlesque and rock revue taking the Reg Lenna Civic Center stage on Jan. 18, 2014. A modern twist on “Grease,” the girls are scintillating dancers and the guys are rock stars. This non-stop song and dance concert will consist of everything from yesterday’s classic rock numbers to roaring hot jazz songs.

Case Dillard, the male lead Bert in Mary Poppins on Broadway is choreographing and performing in the production.

“This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring performers, specifically dancers, to not only receive intensive training from, but perform alongside, a Broadway professional,” said Paul Reed, executive director of the production who has recently taken up residency in Jamestown after working in theater across the United States for 15 years.

Many people are not familiar with what burlesque is, so Reed felt the need to explain what people should expect with the rehearsal and performance.

“Black Satin is not burlesque in the sense that women will strip down to tassels. Absolutely not. The performance will be kept extremely tasteful and the women will exude unapologetic confidence and sex appeal akin to a vintage era long ago.”

Auditions will be held Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. and there is a call for the following:

Female dancers: Dancers should be prepared to learn a choreographed dance number at the audition.

Female and male soloists: Soloists should prepare a song that showcases their register and timbre as well as performance ability. Those seeking soloist spots should have a commanding stage presence. Bring an instrumental track on CD or be prepared to sing A Capella.

Rock bands: Prepare a rock classic cover.

Those who are interested in auditioning must email the director at your contact information and a head shot or recent photo. Our director will get back with you to arrange an audition slot for you on the evening of Sept. 5.
