Jogger Hit By Car, Flown To ECMC
CHAUTAUQUA – An Orchard Park man was flown to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo on Saturday morning after being hit by a car in the town of Chautauqua.
Ramiro Mireles was jogging on the south shoulder of state Route 430 southeast of Hartfield when Richard Dubois, 18, of Bemus Point crested the hill at 10:45 a.m. As Dubois reached the top of the hill, cars were stopped waiting to make a left-hand turn onto Old Route 17. To avoid hitting the cars, Dubois attempted to use the shoulder, but struck the 53-year-old Mireles with the passenger-side mirror and lower windshield.
Mireles was transported by ambulance to the Dewittville Fire Department and then flown to Starflight by ECMC.
Dubois will appear in Town of Chautauqua Court at a later date to face a charge of moving from lane unsafely.
The Hartfield and Dewittville Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
