Richard A. “Dick” Forbes

CASSADAGA – Richard A. “Dick” Forbes, 81, of Cassadaga, died Monday, July 8, 2013, at Brooks Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 30, 1931, in Jamestown, the son of the late Harold P. and Emma Dean Forbes.

Dick was a veteran of the Korean conflict serving with the U.S. Army.

He was employed at Blackstone as a machine operator, retiring in 1996. Dick then drove for C.A.R.T.S. until 2007.

With the help of his family, he built his home in 1998. He enjoyed making family photo albums, working outdoors, fishing and playing cards. Dick was happy-go-lucky and loved to joke around.

Husband of 53 years to Betty J. Smith Forbes, whom he married Sept. 26, 1959; father of Julie (David) Niles of Frewsburg, Allan R. (Sandy) Forbes of Cassadaga, Matthew (Heidi) Forbes of Forestville and Elaine (Kenneth) Lindquist of Oxford, N.C.; grandfather of 12 including the late Rose Marie Lindquist; great-grandfather of six; brother of Harold (Nell) Forbes of Ashville, Darwin (Ruth) Forbes of Sinclairville and the late Cora Brown, Beverly Higgs, Shirleigh Martin, Geraldine Bosak, Warren, Morris and Charlotte Forbes.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department or Brooks Memorial Hospital Dialysis.
