Sylvia J. Lucas

Sylvia J. Lucas, 87, of the Orchard Grove Residences at The Woodlands, Southwestern Drive, formerly of the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, Jamestown and Celoron, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday (July 30, 2013) in WCA Hospital.

A lifelong area resident she was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Arvid and Bodil M. Osterberg Engburg.

She was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School and was very active in the planning of her class reunions.

In earlier years she was employed by the former National Worsted Mills, the Credit Bureau of Jamestown and Crawford Furniture. She also worked for the former Jamestown Mutual Insurance Company for 25 years and retired from the Weber-Knapp Company.

She was a longtime member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. She was also an active volunteer for WCA Hospital for many years working in the snack shop and the dialysis unit.

Surviving are two sons: Donald V. (Laurel) Lucas, Jr. of Jamestown, and Gary R. (Pam) Lucas of Falconer, N.Y.; a daughter, Shirley Lucas of Jamestown; five grandchildren: Renee (Dale) Hansen of Kaysville, Utah, Kristina Lucas, Jerimiah Lucas and Donnell (Andy) Conti all of Jamestown, and Michael Lucas (Addie Albano) of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; 10 great–grandchildren: Travis, Erin, Sadie, Libby, Myck and Quinn Lucas, Taye Rice, Savion Knight, Claire Conti and Stella Lucas; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy Forsberg of Novi, Mich.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald V. Lucas Sr., whom she married Dec. 29, 1944, and who died Dec. 8, 1996; a grandson, Paul Lucas; and a step-grandson, Ben Torrey.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Hoyer, pastor of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
