Thunder In The Streets And Cruisin’ Set To Return

Jamestown’s annual Thunder in the Streets and Downtown Cruisin’ will continue to be held in conjunction with each other on Friday, Aug. 16, in downtown Jamestown.

The 10th annual Thunder in the Streets will be from noon to 11 p.m. on the west side of the city. There will be live entertainment provided by Two for Flinching from noon to 3 p.m., Coal Train from 4-7 p.m. and The Bogarts from 8-11 p.m. All live performances will be held at Renaissance Square on the corner of West Third and Lafayette streets.

Team FMX will showcase three professional stunt shows at 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on West Third Street in front of the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena. The Jamestown Renaissance Corporation will be collecting donations throughout each show to help continue the free, family-friendly events in downtown each year.

A beverage garden will be provided by the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, along with food and novelty vendors on-site.

The Veterans of Modern Warfare Chapter 20 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 865 are hosting a scenic ride for the local Southern Chautauqua County 4-H programs in combination with Thunder in the Streets. Registration will begin at 1 p.m. in the VVA parking lot at 41 Bigelow Ave., Jamestown. Kick-stands will go up at 2:45 p.m. for a ride around Chautauqua Lake to a flag salute at the new Veterans Memorial Park on Logan Avenue at 4 p.m. An escorted bike parade will start at 4:15 p.m. and travel down West Third Street to Jefferson Street where the parade will enter Thunder in the Streets. The procession will be led by any veteran riders followed by other participants. The fee will be $5 per driver and passenger. Thunder in the Streets is sponsored by Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Best Western Plus, Media One Group, Ziebart of Jamestown, Harley Davidson of Jamestown and the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation.

The 21st annual Downtown Cruisin’ is presented by the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation and the Der Kobbler’s Automobile Association and will be fromm 5-11 p.m. Downtown streets will be lined with hundreds of custom-built, antique, and old fashioned trucks, cars, motorcycles and race cars.

Third Street between Prendergast Avenue and Spring Street; Spring Street and Washington Street; along with Cherry and Pine streets will be closed between Second and Fourth streets. Downtown streets will begin to close at 3 p.m. to accommodate the hundreds of show vehicles that will be participating in the event. Washington Street will remain open for the 2013 Cruisin’. Alternative parking is available in the North Main Street parking ramp, Cherry Street parking ramp, Spring Street parking ramp, and on-street parking on those streets outside the event closures.

Check-in and on-site registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Jamestown High School parking lot on Foote Avenue in Jamestown. All vehicles must check in at Jamestown High School to receive their participant identification tag before being permitted to park in downtown. Vehicles will be on display from 5-11 p.m.

All drivers will receive a complimentary goodie bag for their participation. Any business or organization wishing to include information, coupons, or other promotional items is encouraged to drop off items to the JRC offices located at 19-121 W. Third St., Jamestown. Items must be delivered by Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Live music will be on the main stage at the corner of Third and North Main streets. Happy Days will perform from 5-7 p.m. and Night Shift will close out the evening from 9-11 p.m.

Spectators can also enjoy a performance by Collective Groove at the Infinity Arts Cafe at 7 p.m. to experience a unique ensemble that combines Caribbean steel strums, a rhythm section, and singers to create an interactive musical experience. This event is free and features indoor and outdoor seating thanks to the Infinity Arts Cafe’s movable NanaWall. The cafe will also have popcorn, candy, soda, and other snacks. The cafe is located at 115 E. Third St.

There will be dancing in the streets and kids contests with prizes for the entire family to enjoy. Vendors will be participating in addition to The Wine Cellar beverage garden in Wintergarden Plaza.
