Barbara J. Lane

Barbara J. Lane, 80, of Washington Street, Waterloo, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday (July 17, 2013) at Geneva General Hospital.

Barbara was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Jamestown, N.Y. She was the third of four daughters of the late Sherman and Lula Bluckhorn.

Barbara began her lifelong service for others as a lifeguard in Lakewood, N.Y. From there Barbara moved on to college obtaining her associate degree from Jamestown Community College’s first graduating class, a bachelor’s degree from Hunter College, and her master’s degree in family counseling from the University of Wisconsin.

She had several jobs serving others. They included: the Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; to the children of Jamestown, N.Y., at the YMCA; and to the citizens of Chautauqua County and the citizens of New York state through her countless years as an employment counselor with the NYS Department of Labor.

Barbara was one to put the needs of others before the needs of herself. Barbara was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Charles Lane; sons: Terrence (Inis) Sapio, David Sapio, Joseph (Jennifer) Sapio and Michael (Krista) Lane; sister, Lilian Manning of Florida; and her loving grandchildren: Christine, Timothy, Molly, and Maddox Sapio, and Taylor Lane.

She was predeceased by her sisters: Violet McKoon and Jackie Stanford.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Liz Simmons of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will officiate.

Friends will be received by the family from 1-3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
