Last Of Its Kind

FALCONER – A Falconer business that has been selling wedding gowns for more than 19 years will soon sell its last.

Stephanie’s Bridal Loft, located at 3078 N. Work St., Falconer, will be closing its doors Friday, Aug. 2. Sue Thompson, Stephanie’s Bridal Loft owner, said she is retiring from the business.

”I’m wiped out. It just doesn’t stop. There are not many people who sew in the area anymore, so I’m contacted everyday,” she said.

Thompson said she opened the bridal loft in 1994 when sewing dresses for weddings started overtaking her home.

”I was doing it in the house, but everytime we wanted to eat I had to clear the table off of all my sewing. We decided it was better to move it into here,” she said about her business that is in the loft of a barn that sits along Falconer-Kimball Stand Road.

Thompson said her business is one of the last of its kind in the area. She said most local bridal shops have been closing down in recent years.

”I think I’m the last one in this area. There is Vivian’s (Bridal Boutique) in Warren, but all the ones here have closed or they retired, too,” she said.

Thompson said through the years she stayed very busy, especially during summers when her own children were getting married.

”I have five kids and had to do five weddings in a row. There was one each year,” she said.

The sale at Stephanie’s Bridal Loft starts today at 9 a.m. and will run for two weeks, ending at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2. Thompson said everything in stock will be marked down at least 60 percent. The bridal shop carries wedding gowns, mother of the groom and bride dresses, flower girl outfits, bridesmaid attire, shoes, headsets, veils and jewelry. Only cash or credit and debit cards will be accepted during the sale; no checks.

The business will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday during the retirement sale. For more information, call 665-3297.
