Lincoln Elementary Honors?Restivo With Garden

Lincoln Elementary School students and staff recently dedicated a Remembrance Garden to “Grandma” Rose Restivo.

Mrs. Restivo was a longtime volunteer at Lincoln Elementary School who recently passed away.

Students shared memories, read poems and performed songs for Grandma Rose’s relatives who attended the dedication.

“It was such a wonderful event. I was so moved to hear the students speak about my mother. She absolutely loved the children and sharing her artistic skills with them, ” said Joe Paterniti. “My mother was always engaged and involved in her community, but she especially loved working with the children. This garden is such a beautiful memory and we so appreciate it.”

Lincoln Elementary School teacher Julie Schrader began the Memory Garden to honor Grandma Rose who worked with her classes for eight years through the Foster Grandparent Program.

“I felt the students and I needed a way to honor this great lady and find some closure to this sudden change in our lives,” said Mrs. Schrader. “She loved flowers. Throughout the years, if I bought her flowers, she found a way to preserve them and use them in an artistic way.

“Several staff members, the Abraham Lincoln PTA and her very close friend, Mrs. Pat Raffa, supported the project.”

Included in the garden was a plaque with the inscription: “In loving memory of Grandma Rose Restivo. We can all do small things, with great love and together we can do something wonderful – Mother Teresa.”
