Zion Covenant Church To Host Ondicova

Chautauqua Piano Program student Magdalena Ondicova, who was a finalist in this past week’s Sigma Alpha Iota Competition at Chautauqua Institution, will perform a piano recital at the Zion Covenant Church, on Sunday, July 21, at 3 p.m. This free recital is being given in honor of her dear friend, Ruth Ann McChesney, who will celebrate her 75th birthday.

The 27-year-old pianist, whom Ruth Ann McChesney first met in her small village in Slovakia 11 years ago, has returned to the Chautauqua Institution’s Music Festival Piano Program for the fourth year, having won its International Piano Competition in 2011.

Ondicova previously received her Master of Music in Piano Performance at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia. During her undergraduate career, she studied with Zuzana Niederdorfer and Marcel Stefko, and in 2010, she took part in the International Novak Piano Competition in the Czech Republic, where she won second prize.

Ondicova is currently working on her third year of a doctoral program at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava with Marian Lapsansky. Her program on Sunday, July 21, will include both classical and sacred music on Zion’s Steinway piano. A birthday cake reception will follow the recital, hosted by Carilyn Wright and the Zion Covenant Chancel Choir, with whom Ruth Ann sings whenever possible.

The public is cordially welcome to attend.
