Westfield Woman Honored With Westfield/Mayville Paul Harris Award
Marjory B. Fritz, a Westfield resident, recently was the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship award presented by the Westfield/Mayville Rotary Club at its annual dinner at Zebro’s Restaurant in Barcelona.
Nominated by long-time Rotarian Harry Barton, Fritz received the highest honor that Rotary International bestows on those who contribute to society.
“She is a special individual and is the embodiment of the Rotary motto, ‘Service above Self,'” Barton said. “She is most certainly deserving of this award.”
Barton said that as a fellow member of the Westfield First Presbyterian Church, he has been aware of Fritz’s involvement for many years. She has served as chair of the Board of Deacons, which includes overseeing receptions following funeral services for families of the deceased and their guests by purchasing and preparing the menus.
“These receptions average five to six annually and often involve more than 100 people,” noted Barton.
She also has served as chair of the church’s Mission Committee, which raises money to provide donations to local agencies such as the food pantry, soup kitchen and the county jail chaplaincy. Barton added, “This committee also has been providing yearly funding ($3,000) to pay for a year’s training of a student nurse in Haiti.”
Fritz has volunteered her services to the church’s Women’s Association to assist in one of its fundraising projects, he continued.
“During five consecutive Friday nights in the fall, she directs the planning of harvest dinners open to the public,” he said.
In 2002, Fritz joined the Westfield Memorial Hospital Womens Auxiliary and is the current president, having served in that position since 2005.
“The hospital has benefited in many ways due to the efforts of the auxiliary under her leadership,” Barton added. “Major improvements include the creation of a Hospice room with accouterments paid for with auxiliary funds.”
She also served as a Hospice volunteer for several years.
In addition, she has been the mainstay of the organization’s pie booth at each summer’s Arts & Crafts Festival in Westfield, personally baking a large number of delicious pies.
Fritz retired from the position of product development senior scientist by Better Baked Foods.
