Rotary Names Moots Paul Harris Fellow

The Rotary Club of Jamestown has presented Michael Moots with a Paul Harris Fellow.

The fellowship is named for Paul Harris, who founded Rotary with three business associates in Chicago in 1905. The fellowship was established in his honor in 1957 to express appreciation for a contribution of $1,000 to the humanitarian and educational programs of The Rotary Foundation. Those programs include an array of projects that save and invigorate the lives of people around the world and enhance international friendship and understanding. Foundation programs provide educational opportunities, food, potable water, health care, immunizations, and shelter for millions of persons. These activities are funded, implemented and managed by the 1.2 million Rotarians in 32,000 Rotary Clubs around the globe.

Moots has served as the executive director of the Jamestown Community College Foundation since February 2011. He came to JCC from the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County, where he had been executive director since 1990.

Prior to relocation to Jamestown, Moots was employed by the United Way of Youngstown and Canton, Ohio. He also served a personnel director, director of planning and operations, and program consultant in Ohio and was a teacher for the Peace Corps in Micronesia.

Moots earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Notre Dame University and a master’s degree in social development at the University of Chicago.

Active in community service, Moots has been a member of the Rotary Club of Jamestown since 1990 and is serving as vice president of the organization. He is a member and past officer of the Jamestown Elks Lodge 263. He served as chairman of the Chautauqua County Emergency Food and Shelter Program local board and as a member of the JCC Board of Trustees. He served previously as a member of the boards of directors of the United Way of New York State, the Southern Chautauqua County Federal Credit Union and the Jamestown Area Youth Soccer Organization and as chairman of the Chautauqua County Task Force on Alcohol and Substance Abuse.
