UWSCC Campaign Goal Set; Kathmans To Co-Chair
Deborah Kathman, former Chautauqua Striders executive director, and her husband, Daniel “Deke” Kathman, former Jamestown Schools superintendent, will co-chair the 2013 United Way of Southern Chautauqua County Campaign.
This year’s campaign goal is $1,315,000. The money raised will help 18 partner agencies administer 39 local programs to advance initiatives surrounding education, income and health.
“We’re thrilled to be helping spearhead this tremendous community-wide effort,” said Deke Kathman. “Our goal will be challenging to meet, but we’re confident with everyone working together we will get there.”
Deborah Kathman said it’s nice to be helping lead the campaign after having been on the receiving end of it for so many years while at Chautauqua Striders.
“I know without funding from the United Way Campaign, we wouldn’t have been able to accomplish many of the things we did at Striders,” said Mrs. Kathman. “Co-chairing this campaign is my way of giving back to an effort that has meant so much to me personally and professionally.”
Kathman echoed that sentiment.
“As Jamestown Schools superintendent, I saw first-hand the impact this campaign has on our community. Without the annual fundraising the United Way does, the local programs hundreds of people rely on every single day would simply cease to exist. That’s why it’s vital everyone take part in making sure our goal is met, and these programs are kept intact.”
The 2013 UWSCC Campaign officially begins in September, but will launch later this month with the Pacesetter Kickoff. Twenty local businesses and organizations will run early campaigns with the hope of raising 10 percent of the $1,315,000 goal by the end of August.
“We’ve really assembled a great team of volunteers this year,” said Mrs. Kathman. “We’ve got a great mix of seasoned veterans and eager rookies to help carry us over the top. I’m excited for the opportunity to work with them.”
