Lyle Gabriel, 89, of 9429 Marks Corners Road, Clymer, passed away July 11, 2013, in Corry Manor Nursing Home.
He was born June 10, 1924, the son of the late William and Lottie Redding Gabriel, at the family farm in French Creek, where he resided all of his life.
Lyle was a graduate of Sherman High School in 1942.
Besides the farm, he worked at H.K. Nuttall Equipment Inc. for 10 years, and also ran his own lime business. He served 35 years total as town justice and highway superintendent for French Creek, along with serving as board director of the Sherman Farmers Mill.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Caroline Persons Gabriel; three children: Diane (Ken) Rickard of Lakewood, N.Y., Allene Hooper of Frewsburg, N.Y., and Philip (Sue) Gabriel of Clymer, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Stewart (Jill) and Garrett (Tracy Williams) Rickard, Jenna Hooper and Travis and Tyler Gabriel; three step grandchildren: Mike (Sara), Meghan and Matt Anderson; two great-grandchildren: Cody and Georgia Rickard; and two step great-grandchildren: Owen and Paisley Anderson.
Besides his parents, he
was preceded in death by his brothers: Gabe, Donald, Raymond and Everett; a sister, Margaret Phillips Park Medwid; a son-in-law, Lowry Hooper; nieces: Charlotte Crandall and Dixie Crawford; and a nephew, David Edwards.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. No visitation will be observed.
Arrangements are being handled by the Spitzer Funeral Home, Clymer, N.Y.Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society or the three local volunteer fire departments.
The family would like to thank Lyle’s friends who visited or sent well wishes and kind words and kept him up on the local “gossip!”
