Camp ‘COMETS’ Registration Underway

FREDONIA – Registration is now under way for Camp “COMETS” (Creating Opportunities in Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Science), a four-day camp at the State University at Fredonia that introduces talented middle-school students to advanced concepts in mathematics, engineering and science.

The camp, which is held from Aug. 19-22, offers a variety of daily projects and laboratory sessions that simulate real-world situations to encourage problem solving.

Students will be challenged by SMADNESS, Bizz-Buzz, Best Guess; Spy Versus Spy ; Electricity Magnetism and Rocket Science and GeoDome – Spaceship Earth (teams construct and test their own spaceship earth geodome made from mystery materials).

The camp is designed for talented students who maintained an 85 percent or better grade in either mathematics or science classes in the previous academic year and will enter sixth, seventh or eighth grades this fall.

The camp fee is $60, made payable by check to SUNY Fredonia: Project PRIME, and can be sent to: Project PRIME, SUNY Fredonia; 705 Maytum Hall, 280 Central Ave.; Fredonia, NY 14063.
