Salvatore “Sam” R. Guiffreda
Salvatore “Sam” R. Guiffreda, 79, of 114 Val-leyview Ave., Jamestown, died at 5:44 a.m. Wednesday (July 10, 2013), at UPMC Hamot.
He was born in Jamestown on July 19, 1933, the son of Anthony and Bessie Mazzurco Guiffreda.
Sam was employed by the Jamestown Police Department for 28 years, attained the rank of lieu-tenant and retired in 1986. For the past 15 years, he was president of the James-town Boy’s Club Alumni and was instrumental in developing the Jamestown Boys & Girls Club scholarship fund.
He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church.
Sam loved to spend time with his family and playing cards.
He is survived by his de-voted wife, Kathleen Kellner Guiffreda, whom he married Nov. 19, 1995, at South Hills Country Club; nine children: Susan (Carl) Davis and Karen (Joseph) Moynihan, Jamestown, Robert (Cindy) Guiffreda, Fredonia, Gary Galek, Ful-ton, N.Y., Stefanie (Jason) Casel, Virginia Beach, Va., Christina (Ramon) Adams, Pioneer, Ohio, Deborah (Mark) Schell, Randolph, and Vincent (Adelfa) Gorski Jr. and Cynthia (Thomas) Bradley, Findley Lake.; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Guiffreda, Canton, Ohio; and three sisters: J. Patricia Schrum, Port Charlotte, Fla., Rose Bowman and Mary (Chuck) Swanson, Jamestown. Many cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Guiffreda.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor, will be the cele-brant.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
