Jamestown Man Charged At Blue Heron

SHERMAN – A Jamestown man was taken into custody Saturday after police found him in possession of heroin and a fixed blade knife at the Great Blue Heron Festival.

Charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon was Rashid A. Jabbar, 28, of East Sixth Street. According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, security at the music festival on Waits Corners Road was informed of a male believed to be selling drugs.

Security confronted the male, identified as Jabbar, who was allegedly found to be in possession of large fixed blade knife, unsheathed in his pocket.

Jabbar was detained and transported to security headquarters, a police report said. While being transported, the Jamestown resident allegedly threw seven bags containing a powdery substance on the ground.

Security contacted the Sheriff’s Office, who tested the substance and determined it to be heroin. Sheriff’s deputies said the drugs were packaged for sale.

Jabbar was arraigned in Sherman Town Court and remanded to Chautauqua County Jail.
