Falconer Rotary Honors A Legend
On Thursday, June 27 Falconer Rotary was privileged to have Janet Henderson as a guest at the annual installation dinner. Henderson is the widow of Jack Henderson a longtime member of Falconer Rotary. Jack Henderson served as club president, was a Paul Harris Fellow and received the Four Pillars of Service award in 2010. He served as the international chairperson for many years and was passionate about our work to place water wells in Haiti.
Along with others in the club and the guidance of Roy Sheldrake from the Ancaster, Ontario Rotary, he was instrumental in seeing Falconer Rotary provide the funds to drill a water well in the Artibonite Valley in Haiti. Shortly before his death, he discussed ways to keep his dream to drill another well alive with his wife and daughters.
Earlier this year his daughter Jill Leahman, also a member of Falconer Rotary, presented the club with a check to be added to an existing fund at Chautauqua Regional Community Foundation entitled The Haiti Relief Fund. This check along with several other contributions by club members in Jack’s name helped to grow the fund. This week Falconer Rotary added the remaining necessary dollars to the existing fund at Chautauqua Regional Foundation to realize Jack’s dream. We will now be able to drill a second well in Haiti adding to the over 200 wells drilled by Rotary clubs to provide clean drinking water for the citizens of the Artibonite Valley.
It was with great joy the club was able to share this moment with Janet Henderson. Over the years she participated in many Rotary events and was always there to support Jack in whatever project he was working on. It can be said of Janet that she too models Service Above Self in all that she does.
