George C. Boyer

EAST RANDOLPH, N.Y. -George C. Boyer, 87, of Cemetery Street, East Randolph, passed away Friday (July 5, 2013), in Manning House Assisted Living Center in Greer, S.C., while under the care of Hospice, with his family by his side. George was born June 7, 1926. in Lakeland, Fla., the son of the late Richard George Boyer and Lucy Dow Boyer.

He was a graduate of Randolph Central School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II from June 2, 1944, to May 24, 1946.

George retired from Blackstone Corporation in Jamestown, where he was a machinist, and in earlier years had worked for the former Borden Inc. in Randolph.

His memberships included the Randolph American Legion Post 181, Randolph Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 6533 and the Randolph Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 2273. George was an avid golfer at Conewango Folks Golf Course (Cardinal Hills) and enjoyed playing in many of the leagues there. He was a competitive ski jumper and holds the record for the 30-meter jump at Allegany State Park. He was also and avid fox hunter.

He is survived by two daughters: Gail Sims and husband, David, of Greer, S.C., and Martha Pulsifer of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; a son; Gregory Boyer of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Blatt and husband, Bill, of Greenville, Pa.

He was preceded by a sister. Jane Arrance; and a brother, Donald Boyer.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, from where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Ricky Beck, pastor of the Faith Bible Chapel in Randolph, will officiate. Burial will follow in the East Randolph Cemetery.
