Ruth D. O’Brien
ASHVILLE – Ruth D. O’Brien, 93, formerly of Ashville, died Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Heritage Green, Ellery.
She was born June 10, 1920, in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Bates Nieder.
She attended grade school in Fredonia, and was a 1937 graduate of Celoron High School. She was raised by Len and Mary Powers during her high school years.
During World War II, she was employed at Marlin Rockwell in the inspection department. Ruth spent the rest of her life as a full-time homemaker who loved spending time with her family.
She was a past member of the Jamestown Free Methodist Church and was a kin-dergarten and first grade Sunday school teacher and caregiver in the nursery. She is currently a member of the Gerry Free Methodist Church.
Ruth enjoyed relaxing with her cup of coffee, white birch trees, crossword puzzles and reading her Bible.
Wife of 68 years to Danny O’Brien, whom she married July 27, 1945; mother of Danny (Jan) O’Brien of Scottville, Mich., Gary (Gretta) O’Brien of Han-over, Pa., Bonnie (Charles) Cobb of Huntington, W.Va., Tom (Diane) O’Brien of Traverse City, Mich., and David (Diane) O’Brien of Ashville; grandmother of 16; great-grandmother of 22 including the late Gage Cole; sister of William (Donna) Nieder of Jamestown, Peter (Joanne) Yeager of Elmira, and the late Marie Cross, Fran Marsh Brown, Donald, Gordon, Paul and Charles Nieder. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Gerry Free Methodist Church, Church St., Gerry. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, and one hour prior to the service at church. Buri-al will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, North Harmony.
