Rotary President Says Farewell
John “Doc” Hamels said farewell as 2012-13 president and welcomed Crystal Schrantz as 2013-14 president of the Westfield/Mayville Rotary Club. Citing many achievements begun or finished during his tenure, Hamels particularly mentioned the pleasure of sponsoring a Rotary exchange student from France, outstanding singers from Chautauqua Institution as a result of the club’s monetary scholarship contribution, welcoming the largest number of new members and receipt of a Rotary presidential citation. Hamels also stressed the fulfillment of adding to the county’s Children’s Village by the club building a pavilion.
“We earned a Peace Award (from Rotary District 7090),” he noted, emphasizing, “We really are doing well.”
After accepting the gavel for a new year, Schrantz, citing Rotary’s 4 Way Test – Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned? – offered a few words. “We live by the values of Rotary and bring them to the communities we serve. I’ve decided to be a responsible leader and to get involved.”
She then presented a special small flag that declared her goal for her tenure – Engage In Rotary/Change Lives.
Anyone interested in becoming a Rotarian should contact any club member or attend a meeting, which begins weekly at 12:15 p.m. each Tuesday at the Westfield United Methodist Church, includes lunch, humor and a speaker and ends at 1:15 p.m.
