Trustee In Trouble

FREDONIA – Fredonia Village Trustee Joseph Cerrie was charged with forcible touching Friday morning after police say he fondled a woman’s breasts during his shift at a local bar.

According to a press release by the Fredonia Police Department, at approximately 2 a.m., Cerrie, 43, was bartending at Hennan’s Pub on East Main Street when the incident occurred. While talking with a 28-year-old female patron, Cerrie allegedly touched her breasts, which were covered by a dress.

Cerrie was arraigned in Fredonia Village Court and released.

Mayor Stephen Keefe, on behalf of the village board, declined to comment on the matter.

“We don’t know where this is heading,” he said.

District Attorney David Foley and Fredonia Village Attorney Samuel Drayo were unable to be reached for comment.

Fredonia Chief of Police Bradley Meyers said that the police have done their part in the case, which is entirely in the hands of the court system now.

Cerrie has served as a trustee for about 10 years and is currently two years into his third term.

The Fredonia trustee has recently been part of a committee on village government to explore possible consolidation options with the town of Pomfret and the village.
