Dorothy M. Baldwin

GERRY – Dorothy M. Baldwin, 93, of Heritage Village, died Saturday, June 28, 2013, at the Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.

Born May 28, 1920, in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Ella Pingrey Che-ney.

She was a 1938 graduate of Cuba High School and the Practical Bible Training School in 1940. She mar-ried the Rev. Ernest L. Beuter. After serving two pastorates in New York state, they worked with Baptist Mid Missions in Haiti for two years. After Ernest’s death in 1949, Dorothy graduated from Houghton College, magna cum laude, in 1954. She was listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Col-leges. While teaching English and French in Clymer, she completed her master’s degree in journalism at Syracuse University.

In 1965, she married the late Robert G. Baldwin of Fredonia, while teaching in Hamburg from 1963-75. Robert died in 1999.

Dorothy was a freelance writer of several articles published in various maga-zines and authored “Memoirs of a Depression Bum,” a book chronicling her second husband’s travels as a teen.

She was a member of the Benjamin Prescott chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church, has been a resident of Heritage Village since 1998 and attended the Gerry Free Methodist Church.

Mother of Mary Anna (Warren) Harbeck of Cochrane, Alberta, Canada, and Rhoda Rhoads of Ed-monton, Alberta, Canada; grandmother of six; great-grandmother of 12; sister of Donald (Jane) Cheney of Ormond Beach, Fla., and the late Basil (Hazel) Cheney of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Memorial service 1:30 p.m. Friday in Seeley Auditorium, Schwab Manor of Heritage Village, Gerry. No prior visitation. Burial in West Clarksville Cemetery, West Clarksville.
