Lake Erie NY?Chapter 4 Adopts Platoon

To The Reader’s Forum:

The Lake Erie New York Chapter 4 of the Blue Star Mothers of America has adopted a platoon out of Ft. Drum and we are in the process of collecting items to include in care packages that we hope to send out to them soon after the 4th of July. We are reaching out to our community for help in filling these boxes and hoping we can count on your help with this special mailing.

We will be collecting items at a few different events in the area over the next couple of weeks. The Blue Star Mothers will have a table at the Frewsburg Gala Days where you can drop off items on Wednesday through Saturday from 6 to 9pm, and also on Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3pm. We will also be attending the Jamestown Municipal Band’s concert at the Allen Park band shell for their “Honor the Military” concert held on Wednesday, July 3rd, starting at 7pm, and items can be dropped off to us there also. Another opportunity will be a Patriotic concert on Sunday July 7th, at the First Baptist Church, 19 Union Street, Westfield, NY, starting at 7pm where they are showing support for our organization and our troops by collecting items that will be included in our care packages. We will also be collecting items at our booth in building one at the Cross Roads Farm and Craft Market,6017 Sherman-Westfield Road, Westfield, NY over the next few Saturday’s from 9am to 5pm.

Some suggested items, and some favorite items that the troops appreciate receiving are: popcorn, crackers, beef jerky, baby wipes, flip flops, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, lip balm, singles to go drink mixes that can be put in water bottles, playing cards, zip top cans (ravioli, fruit, ect.) magazines and books. They also enjoy cards and letters of encouragement, and hand made cards from our area children, these mean so much to them.

Thank you for considering to show your support to our troops who are fighting for our freedoms in Afghanistan by dropping off an item, or a card or letter that will go directly in a box and be sent by the Blue Star Mothers to these deployed soldiers from Ft. Drum. It means so much to them to know that they are being thought of and supported from home.

A heartfelt thank you again to our wonderful community for your continued support!
