Lakewood Baptist Church Sends Team To Angola Prison
Six members of Lakewood Baptist Church traveled to Angola State Penitentiary near Baton Rouge, La., May 16-19. This was the fifth year a team was sent from LBC to join with volunteers around the country to partner with AWANA Lifeline to minister to fathers in that prison.
The purpose of this trip was to reunite inmate fathers with their children during a one-day fun fair. This is based on Malachi 4:6 which reads: He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. This is an opportunity for inmates to see their children and enjoy a time of reconnection. Although many of the fathers will be behind bars for the rest of their lives, they have committed to end the prison cycle and be the fathers God intended.
This year there were 759 children, 363 fathers, 340 guardians and 540 volunteers who participated in the reunion. For more information on Returning Hearts Celebration you can go to www.awanalifeline.org.
