Library To Host Meet And Greet With Dog

Prendergast Library will present a story and a “meet and greet” with Carmen the dog at 2 p.m. Monday.

Carmen earned her Canine Good Citizenship certification through Andrea DiMaio of Dog Speak at The Dog Place and has been making pet therapy visits for three years. She and Jill Bladh, her owner and handler, were named Volunteers of the Year at Lutheran in 2011.

“Carmen has a unique personality. She is a diva who sleeps until 10 a.m., insists on being under the covers, and likes to wear hats. She is wonderfully gentle with kids and senior citizens, is a friend to all, and never barks.” Bladh said.

A 5-year-old Beagle/Italian Greyhound mixed breed, Carmen was rescued by Save Ohio Strays in 2009.

After children meet Carmen on Monday, they will be able to sign up to come in and read to her in 15-minute slots on Tuesdays between 2 and 3 p.m. A permission slip signed by a legal guardian is required.

Ten family programs are scheduled at 2 p.m. on Mondays throughout the summer as part of the “Dig into Reading” summer reading program. Spoon Man will present a family comedy event July 1.

The library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For information, call 484-7135.
