YMCA Offering Zumbatonic Classes Starting Saturday
The Jamestown YMCA will be offering a special six-week session of Zumbatonic classes for ages 7-12 years that will run Saturday through July 27.
“Lazing around in front of the computer or television has become an all too common free-time activity for kids,” said Meg Pickard, wellness director. “Studies show that more and more kids are experiencing unhealthy summer weight gain. Getting kids to exercise can often be a challenge, but with Zumbatonic the exercise is disguised as play and kids love it.”
Zumbatonic is a high-energy workout. It’s packed with kid-friendly, choreographed routines to music like hip-hop, reggaeton and cumbia.
Parents love Zumbatomic too because of the effects it has on kids from increasing their focus and self-confidence to boosting metabolism and enhancing coordination. And since adult Zumba classes will run concurrently, Zumbatomic will round out family fitness goals by giving parents a reason to head to the YMCA – for themselves and for their kids.
No prior dance experience is needed, and classes are designed with age-appropriate moves. Loose, comfortable clothing and gym shoes with socks are recommended attire.
Space is limited so parents are encouraged to get their kids register early. The registration deadline is Friday. For more information and to register, stop by the Jamestown YMCA at 101 E. Fourth St., 664-2802.
