Class On Strawberry
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County will be holding a class on preserving strawberries on June 25 from 6-8 p.m. at the Frank W. Bratt Agricultural Center located at 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown. The hands-on class will walk participants through cooked strawberry jam recipes such as full sugar, reduced sugar, and artificial sweetener, and freezer jam. Participants will also learn about freezing strawberries and other fresh berries. The class is taught by volunteers recently trained at a CCE Master Food Preservers course. Registration is required in order to accurately plan for supplies and materials. Class size is limited to the first 25 registrations. There is a fee of $25 per person, or $40 for two people sharing materials, which can be paid at the door. All participants will go home with strawberry jam for their cupboards.
Book Discussion Group To Meet
LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Memorial Library Book Discussion Group will meet at the library Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. to discuss “Against Medical Advice” by James Patterson. This true story is about one family’s struggle with an agonizing medical mystery. Meetings are the third Tuesday of the month, and the book chosen for July 16 is “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak. A list of the other books chosen for discussion is available at the library. Copies of the books are available at the library and Off the Beaten Path Bookstore in Lakewood. To Meet Tuesday
BUSTI – The Busti Fire Department Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the fire hall. The board of directors met recently and will give reports on their discussion and changes to the by-laws to be voted on by the membership. Members are needed to help at the Fireman’s Antique Tractor pull and equipment show on June 30.

GERRY – The Gerry Volunteer Fire Auxiliary annual summer picnic will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the home of Lori Lindsley, Gerry Levant Road. Members attending should take a dish to pass.
The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency board of directors will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the board room, 200 Harrison St., Jamestown.
Of ’63 To Reunite
The Southwestern Central School Class of 1963 will hold a reunion beginning with a school tour at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 12. Classmates will meet at the SWCS dome. The reunion will continue at 6 p.m. in the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Food will be served at 7 p.m. Music follows at 9 p.m. A two-hour boat ride and pizza party on the Summer Wind will be at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.
