Local Youngsters Shine At State Grappling Championships

FREDONIA – Members of Kinetix Combat Sports and Fitness, an Academy of Martial Arts in Jamestown, recently competed in the 10th annual New York State Grappling Championships at Fredonia Central School.

The championship, which included competitors of such grappling arts as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, submission grappling, Judo, Sambo and wrestling, took place earlier this spring.

Jackson Roth earned first place in both Gi and Nogi, 7- and 8-year-old heavyweight divisions; Jacob Roth was first in the Gi 4/5/6 year old division, going undefeated and finishing a pair of matches by submission; and both Reed Cheney and Zack Hendrick placed third in two youth divisions.

In adult competition, Lauren Timco earned a gold in the female Nogi Division behind four submission victories while Victor Guarriello was first in the male Gi Division.

Chris Pool rounded out the area place finishers when he captured the silver medal in the teen Nogi Division.
