Jamestown Harmony Express Sings In Washington
The Harmony Express Barbershop chorus recently returned from a four-day performance tour in Washington, D.C. The invitation to participate in the Festival of States came from the Hon. Vincent C. Gray, mayor of the District of Columbia. Concerts were held in the Retired Military Officers Retirement Home, a Sunday church service, the World War II Memorial where a wreath was laid at the New York State Memorial, and on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The invitation also included a concert in the Gettysburg 150th Commemoration of the Civil War Celebration.
Prior to the trip, a grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation provided the chorus funds that helped to complete the traveling uniforms.
Future performance tours are being planned. Rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening at 7 at the First Presbyterian Church, corner of Sixth Street and Prendergast Avenue, Jamestown. Men who like to sing in four-part close harmony are welcome. The Barbershop Annual Show is slated for Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Lucille Ball Little Theatre.
