Local resident and Vietnam veteran Terry Schermerhorn will relate the story of how Gen. Douglas MacArthur made his dramatic escape from the Japanese-held Philippine Islands during the early days of World War II. The speaker will make comparisons between the promise of MacArthur – “I shall return” – and the promise of Christ – “I will come again.” All are welcome to this patriotic service honoring the nation’s heroes. A free meal will be served following the speaker. The event will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jamestown Seventh-day Adventist Church, 130 McDaniel Ave.
Hospital Board Reveals Ornament
WESTFIELD – The Westfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board has unveiled its newest ornament in the continuing Westfield-related porcelain ornament collection. This is the seventh in the series and features the “Welcome To Historic Westfield” marker. The back of the ornament highlights some of Westfield’s unique history. These items are available as hanging ornaments, magnets and thimbles. All proceeds support WMH Auxiliary’s ongoing projects. Ellington Church To Present Cantata
ELLINGTON – The Ellington Baptist Church Choir will present the cantata ”Calvary’s Love” at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the Leon Celebration Fellowship Church, Route 62, Leon. Refreshments will follows. All are invited to attend.

The Allegheny Outdoor Club will ride bikes from East Street in Warren to the Kinzua Dam and back,. On Saturday, the AOC will ride bikes halfway around Chautauqua Lake. On June 22, the AOC will spend three days camping at the Buckaloons and floating sections of the Allegheny River. The first float will be eight miles from Kinzua Dam to the Buckaloons. The next float will be 16 miles, from the Buckaloons to Tidioute. The third float will be 15 miles, from Tidioute to Tionesta, After each float participants will return to camp out at the Buckaloons. The Jamestown AAUW Branch is holding a garage sale Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., both days. The sale will take place at 186 Hallock St. in Jamestown at the corner of Ellis Street. Among the many items on sale are: toys, clothing, shoes, purses, lots of books, household and decorative items. Cash only. All proceeds from the sale will help women further their education.
